Ten years since Mockingjay — Part 1 opened in Sydney

Mockingjay — Part 1 opened in Australia in November 2014, and for this site’s first era it was the biggest night we covered: the queue outside the State Theatre, homemade mockingjay pins, people who’d driven in from hours away. We’ve been digging through our archive from that season while restoring the site.

What’s striking a decade on is how much of the franchise’s Australian audience formed in those queues. The people we met that night are the same community now organising re-read groups and booking September’s rerelease sessions — older, but with the pins kept.
